[ARCHIVED] Dek Hockey Rink Upgrades Honor Former Supervisor Bart Miller

Dek Hockey Rink Upgrades Honor Former Supervisor Bart Miller

Richland Township is proud to share that the dek hockey rink at Richland Community Park has received a significant upgrade, thanks to a generous $20,000 donation from the family and friends of the late Barton “Bart” D. Miller and a $15,000 contribution through the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation’s (HTTPS)  Project Power Play 2.0 initiative.

Bart Miller, a long-serving township supervisor and community advocate, was instrumental in the rink’s original development. The enhancements to the facility, which include a brand new, professional-grade playing surface, serve as a tribute to his dedication to public service and youth recreation. His legacy continues through the ongoing service of his wife, Ann Miller, who now serves on the Richland Township Board of Supervisors.

This project was completed thanks to additional funding from the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation’s Project Power Play 2.0. Richland Township was honored to be one of five communities selected for this initiative, which helps preserve and enhance community dek hockey rinks across the Pittsburgh region. The Township is deeply grateful to the Penguins Foundation for their continued investment in youth recreation and public spaces.

The dek hockey rink is home to the North Star Dek Hockey Organization (HTTPS), operated by the Pine-Richland Youth Center (PRYC) (HTTPS). North Star provides seasonal leagues for players aged 4 to 15, helping young athletes develop sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the game. The new surface will improve safety, playability, and longevity for years to come.

In addition to league play, the dek hockey rink is also available to the public for one-time rentals. It is great for birthday parties, friendly games, or private practices. Rental information can be found through the Township’s online reservation system.

Richland Township extends its sincere appreciation to the Miller family, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, and everyone who contributed to this meaningful project. We invite the community to visit the park and enjoy the upgraded facility, a lasting reflection of Bart Miller’s impact on our township.
